Structured framework used to evaluate a credit proposal across financial, business, management, collateral, compliance, conduct, and risk parameters.
Lending Assessment Matrix is a structured framework that helps credit teams assess a borrower consistently. In MSME underwriting, the matrix may include financial performance, bank conduct, bureau record, promoter background, industry risk, repayment capacity, collateral, compliance, and policy deviations. For example, a proposal may score well on collateral but weak on cash-flow stability, prompting additional covenants or lower exposure. The matrix matters because it reduces purely subjective decision-making and helps approvers compare cases using common parameters. It should support judgment, not replace it. The common caution is to keep scoring logic transparent, update weights when policy changes, and allow documented overrides where business context justifies a different conclusion.
