Structured plan for reducing identified credit risks through collateral, guarantees, covenants, insurance, monitoring, pricing, exposure limits, documentation, or operational controls.
Mitigation Strategy Framework sets out how the lender will reduce or control risks identified in the credit assessment. In MSME lending, not every weakness leads to rejection; some risks can be managed through lower exposure, stronger collateral, promoter guarantee, escrow, insurance, covenants, stock audits, tighter drawing power, or more frequent monitoring. For example, high customer concentration may be mitigated by receivable tracking and lower advance rate, while collateral documentation risk may require legal clearance before disbursement. This framework matters because approvals should clearly show how material risks are being addressed. The common caution is to avoid generic mitigants that do not match the risk. Each mitigant should have an owner, timeline, trigger, and monitoring method.
