Assessment of credit risk for borrowers with migrated business location, employment, customer base, or lending relationship. It focuses on stability, traceability, and continuity of income.
Migrant Credit Assessment evaluates borrowers whose business, residence, employment, or banking relationship has shifted from one location or lender to another. In MSME lending, migration can be normal business expansion, relocation, balance transfer, or movement from informal to formal credit. It can also create risks around address verification, customer continuity, local market knowledge, and repayment tracking. For example, a small enterprise moving from one state to another may need fresh checks on business premises, registrations, suppliers, and customer base. This assessment matters because historical conduct may not fully predict performance after migration. The common caution is to verify continuity of operations, reasons for movement, existing liabilities, and whether the borrower remains traceable.
