Assessment of demand for the borrower’s products or services based on customer base, order book, industry trends, competition, pricing power, and market outlook.
Market Demand Analysis checks whether there is sufficient and sustainable demand for the borrower’s products or services. In MSME credit assessment, demand affects sales growth, inventory movement, receivable quality, capacity utilisation, and repayment ability. For example, a manufacturer seeking expansion finance should show evidence of orders, customer enquiries, market growth, or competitive advantage rather than only promoter optimism. This analysis matters because repayment depends on future cash generation, not only past balance sheet strength. It should consider customer concentration, substitutes, seasonality, local competition, and pricing pressure. The common caution is to avoid relying only on industry-level optimism; the borrower’s own market access, product quality, distribution, and customer retention must also be assessed.
