Classification of borrower, branch, property, or business location, such as urban, semi-urban, rural, metro, cluster, industrial area, or policy-defined geography.
Location Category classifies the geography relevant to the borrower, business, branch, or collateral. In MSME underwriting, location can influence market access, customer base, logistics, collateral liquidity, regulatory classification, priority-sector treatment, and operational risk. For example, a unit in an industrial cluster may have better supplier access and comparable benchmarks, while a remote location may create valuation or recovery challenges. Location category also supports reporting and policy filters. This field matters because risk and opportunity can vary significantly by geography. The common caution is to use standard master values and verify the actual business or collateral location rather than relying only on registered address. Multiple locations should be captured separately where relevant.
